Zeus Technology fires up Sun servers

ZXTM to be deployed on Sun Fireâ„¢ V20z servers

Zeus Technology, the acknowledged leader in Internet infrastructure solutions, today announced a strategic alliance partnership with Sun Microsystems to offer the Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM) with Sun Fire V20z servers sold through the Sun Microsystems reseller channel.

By offering ZXTM's Traffic Management and Load Balancing features on Sun Fire V20z servers, Sun will drive additional value amongst its enterprise customers and deliver class-leading features and functionality that would normally require additional investment with third party software vendors. The deal will also enable Sun reseller partners to extend profit margins and target additional revenue opportunities in this high-growth, high-revenue market.

ZXTM has been designed to offer network administrators an ideal management, security and optimization solution which provides centralized control and resilience for a variety of web-based applications and ensures swift and seamless interaction between web-enabled application services. ZXTM has also been optimized to take advantage of the enhanced performance delivered through the combination of Sun Solaris 10 running on dual 64-bit AMD Opteron processors.

"This deal marks the coming together of two complementary technologies", commented Paul Di Leo, CEO, Zeus Technology. "By uniting our enterprise-class, high-performance traffic management system with Sun's next generation server architecture, we can help deliver an optimal combination of performance, integrity and resilience where it is needed the most."

Incorporating TrafficScript control language, TrafficCluster scalability, deep content inspection, intelligent Web Services routing and end-to-end traffic security, Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager offers IT managers and directors finer-grained control in order to adapt network performance to match business objectives and help safeguard service availability.

In addition, ZXTM uses the most secure and highest-performing SSL technology available - providing the perfect complement to Sun's current iForce security solution.

The strategic partner alliance will also include a joint development agreement that will cover compatibility testing and technology optimization. This will result in the development of additional features and functionality usually found in custom appliances including automated start up, configuration management and upgrade routines that make configuration and deployment simple and easy.

"Customers are continuing to look at how to achieve business benefits from technology and IT directors need access to a computing environment that is both technically advanced and adaptable to change," said Gary Nugent, Alliances director, Sun Microsystems UK. "Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager supports the high resilience, broad protocol support and extensive scalability and flexibility our Sun Fire customers demand."

Unlimited content inspection capabilities allow ZXTM to continuously analyse and rewrite entire client requests and server responses without hindering network performance. In addition, traffic can be routed based on specific criteria such as destination, content type or any part of the request or response, enabling business policies to be translated into traffic management decisions.

Providing intelligent traffic management, application optimization with connection offload and compression handling, SSL offload using the industry leading 64-bit enhanced software code, native XML processing, bandwidth management and SLA enforcement, application security and user defined application health monitors, ZXTM's comprehensive feature set provides complete control over services offered to end-users.

Sun Fire V20z servers with Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager will be available from March 2005 through Sun Microsystems UK distributor Clarity. Pricing is available on request. Zeus will also be demonstrating Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager appliance at Sun Live 2005, 22nd March, The Brewery, London.
