Enterprise Web Application Firewalling for Zeus Traffic Manager software

Zeus Application Firewall Module adds a sophisticated, application-aware web application firewall to Zeus Traffic Manager. It allows an organization to apply application firewalling techniques to any web application, to the standards required by the PCI DSS specification, section 6.6.

Why do you need a web application firewall?

Many web-based applications are vulnerable to a range of attacks that cannot be protected against by traditional network firewalls. For example, cross site scripting, cookie tampering, forceful browsing and SQL injection attacks can be used to steal information and disrupt user's transactions, but because these attacks are hidden deep within the HTTP or HTTPS transactions, they are very difficult to detect and prevent.

A Web Application Firewall such as the offering from Zeus performs deep HTTP inspection to compare traffic against known attacks and suspicious signatures, and it also secures a web site against session tampering or forceful browsing by encrypting cookies and URLs where necessary to prevent direct modification. A Web Application Firewall can generally be deployed to secure a service completely transparently - no application modifications are required.

Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)

The Payment Card Industry - a consortium of all major credit card issuers - require all merchants who handle cardholder data online to adhere to a standard called PCI DSS. One requirement of this standard is for merchants to either undergo rigorous third-party code reviews, or to deploy a Web Application Firewall that meets certain criteria.
