Having a highly capable and fully-featured traffic manager is a real asset to your network, but only if it is easy to use. If the task of configuring your traffic manager is too complex, you either end up having to pay all over again to have an expert configure it for you, or you don't bother to use the advanced features that you bought it for in the first place. ZXTM is not like other traffic managers; its secure web-based user interface (UI) is attractive yet intuitive, simple yet powerful.
Complex enterprise or legacy application servers often employ groups of protocols which require greater intelligence to ensure the services can be clustered effectively. For instance, a failure in one of a group of protocols associated with a particular clusters service should indicate a failure for the entire service, requiring fail-over to occur. ZXTM allows you to manage and cluster all your networked services through its support for both TCP and UDP protocols, and through its intelligent and intuitive TrafficScript™ rule language.
Software archives and licence keys are downloaded via our secure customer extranet to minimize shipping lead times. Once you have unpacked the software archive on your server, run the installation script provided, supply it with your licence key and specify a password for the administrative interface. If there are already other ZXTM machines on the network, you will get the choice either of joining the existing cluster, or of starting a new one. ZXTM will automatically synchronize its configuration from other machines in the cluster if available. The whole process should take you less than two minutes.
As the ZXTM appliance comes pre-installed, all you need to do is to supply it with a valid licence key and choose either to join an existing ZXTM cluster or to start a new one. As with the software version of ZXTM, it will automatically synchronize its configuration from other machines in the cluster if available. The whole process should take less than a minute.
Yes. ZXTM appliance and stand-alone software are fully-compatible and communicate with each other via secure network channels.
Full details of supported operating systems, and minimum hardware specifications can be found in the ZXTM Features and Specifications document.
Once you've installed ZXTM and its licence key, and logged into its secure UI, you'll be guided by on-screen prompts on how to get ZXTM managing your traffic. You may find it helpful to browse through the short Getting Started with ZXTM guide (shipped with the product) if you're not familiar with the concepts of server pools and virtual servers.
ZXTM's user interface is designed to be goal-oriented, that is, to make it easier for you to use it in the way you want to, not in the way you're forced to. ZXTM provides you with configuration wizards which, in a few quick steps, allow you to perform common tasks such as load balancing requests across pools of servers with session persistence. Just pick the task you want to achieve and follow the prompts - you'll be up and running in no time.
Once you've created a cluster of ZXTM machines, you can log into any of the machines to configure the whole cluster in one go. The configuration information will be automatically replicated to other ZXTM units. This means that introducing a new ZXTM machine to the cluster will automatically configure it, ensuring an easy, rapid deployment.

ZXTM provides you with real-time reporting and historical trend graphs of the performance of your network from a single user interface. This means you can plan future capacity requirements and allows rapid fault isolation, reducing the time to fix. Statistical data gathered by ZXTM can be retrieved using SNMP for easy integration into existing network monitoring infrastructure such as HP OpenView.
