Government agencies are extremely risk-averse, and conscious of budgetary constraints when choosing a product. Often, they will be mandated to provide a certain level of service by the government itself, particularly if the service they run is public-facing.
In the light of the current world climate, security and disaster recovery are of particular concern, though many systems needing to be secured and made fault-tolerant are often home-grown or based on older technology.

“The Key to XML Traffic Management”
ZXTM fitted effortlessly into our web infrastructure and we are already seeing the benefits. We have been able to seamlessly migrate over 24,000 documents to our new content management system. Three lines of TrafficScript™ code were used to dynamically rewrite requests that map seamlessly into the new path name in a matter of hours as opposed to months of manual effort.
Mark Neilson, Infrastructure Manager, Newport City Council
Case Study
Newport City Council operates a public-facing information portal for the residents of that area. Because of the importance of the availability of the information application availability, the organization had been using Cisco content switches to provide load balancing across their clustered web servers, and for their internal network.
With increasing importance placed on the online information portal, the organization was looking to move to a full managed content solution and to upgrade or replace the existing Cisco content switches.
The city council settled on a solution comprising Straker's Shado MX content management system and ZXTM. In order to increase the capacity and resilience of the overall solution, Shado MX was deployed in a resilient configuration with ZXTM providing the fault-tolerance and intelligent traffic management over the clustered ColdFusion MX application servers.
As software, ZXTM is able to integrate tightly with enterprise products such as Straker's Shado MX content management system. This ensures that the overall solution can be scaled to cope with future capacity demands, and has multiple levels of resilience to ensure the continued availability of the information the city council provides to its residents.
